Pitched Roofs
Pitched roofs that drain well and last for decades
Pitched roofs shed water quickly, perform well in wind and rain and suit most homes in Somerset and Wiltshire. We build new pitched roofs, re-cover existing ones and repair the parts that most often fail: ridges, hips, verges, valleys and flashings.
We work with concrete and clay tiles, natural slate and the timber structure underneath. That includes converting flat garage and extension roofs to pitched roofs where you want a better look and a longer-lasting roof.

Strip and re-cover with new membrane, battens and tiles or slates.
Dry ridge & dry verge
Mechanically fixed systems that don’t rely on mortar.

Built properly from the timbers up
A pitched roof is only as good as what’s under the tiles. On new roofs and re-roofs we check or build the timber structure, fit breathable membrane and treated battens, and make sure the roof is ventilated correctly to prevent condensation.
We finish ridges, hips and verges with modern dry-fix systems or traditional bedding depending on the roof, and dress lead flashings where the roof meets walls and chimneys.

FAQs
Pitched roofs: frequently asked questions
What are the advantages of a pitched roof?
Pitched roofs drain water quickly, cope well with wind and rain, give extra loft space and typically last longer than flat roofs with less maintenance.
Can you convert my flat garage roof to a pitched roof?
Yes. We build new timber pitched roofs over garages and extensions and cover them in tiles or slate. Check with your council whether planning permission is needed for your property.
What is a dry ridge system?
A dry ridge fixes the ridge tiles mechanically with clips and a ventilated roll instead of mortar. It doesn’t crack and wash out like mortar, so it needs far less maintenance.
How do I know if my pitched roof needs replacing?
Signs include lots of slipped or cracked tiles, sagging, perished felt visible in the loft and repeated leaks. We’ll inspect and tell you honestly whether repair or replacement makes more sense.
Do you repair as well as install pitched roofs?
Yes, we carry out everything from single tile replacements to full re-roofs.
Do you offer free quotes for pitched roofing?
Yes. All site surveys and quotes are free with no obligation.
